Basically, it's me. My name is Wiley, and I'm an autistic artist. I've tried many times over the years to make a living by selling the things that I make, but it tends not to work for one simple reason: my interests are too unpredictable. Because I'm autistic, I have an ability to concentrate on a project in a way that neurotypical people rarely do. But the flip side of that is that I have very little control over what it is that I'm concentrating on. I might spend six months building a business selling hand dyed spinning fiber when all of a sudden my brain decides that it would rather focus on origami, or macroeconomics. And I find myself back on square one.
The one thing that never changes is that I am always making something, and after a brief initial practice period, I tend to be making things remarkably well. That's where this idea comes in. Rather than trying to market the many and varied things that I produce, I offer people subscriptions to whatever I'm making at the time. People subscribing to Artist by Subscription receive regular shipments of whatever I happen to be making at the time.
